Hi, I’m trying to create a text reveal animation using GSAP SplitText with a mask in the Bricksforge Animation Panel.
I saw in the Bricksforge 4.0 changelog that mask support was added, but I’m not sure how to apply it to SplitText animations.
The effect I’m trying to achieve is a standard masked text reveal, where each line or word animates upward from behind an overflow/mask rather than simply fading or translating into view.
Could you explain how the new mask functionality is intended to be used with SplitText? Is there a setting in the Animation Panel that I’m missing, or does the mask need to be configured through custom properties/CSS?
If you have an example of the correct setup for a masked SplitText reveal, that would be very helpful.
I was looking for that feature too, but unfortunately couldn’t find it; I even started a thread about it and also looked into the auto-split functionality supported by GSAP.
good catch, and sorry for the confusion. The mask option really exists: it was added as a “Mask” select (None / Lines / Words / Chars) in the Split Text settings and the frontend passes it straight to GSAP’s SplitText mask option, which wraps every line, word or char in its own clipping container, so you get the classic reveal from behind an overflow without adding any CSS yourself.
The problem is that this control was built into the previous Timelines panel, and the new Animation Panel in 4.0, which replaces it, doesn’t have the control yet. So you’re not missing a setting, it simply isn’t exposed in the new UI at the moment. Timelines that already had the mask set keep working, because the runtime honours the stored value.
I’ll add the Mask option to the Split Text section of the new panel in an upcoming update!
